Title: Advice on the Best Color to Paint Wooden Kitchen Cabinets
Author Name: Krishna Charanadasa
Content:
The remarkable alacrity with which paint resurrects the fading fortunes of kitchen cabinets is reminiscent of the awe-inspiring manner in which US swimming sensation Michael Phelps smashes existing world records at the pool in the Beijing Olympics.
This comparison might sound comical, and even downright preposterous to many. Rest assured, I'm not inadvertently conflating two diametrically different issues. But the fact remains that the common thread that runs through both of them is the verve and single-minded dedication with which that they go about their task.
Whatever the finish you desire, smooth, textured, glazed or sanded, you can count on a few deft strokes to deliver the goods. But what really can rock the boat is a rather vexing question- what is the best color to paint wooden kitchen cabinets? Now, before you make snap judgments about the cerebral nature of this issue, let me put things in a nursery way.
Colors That Cause Uninhibited Frenzy
It's easy to debate on colors for wooden cabinets in the kitchen on monotonously familiar grounds, but the fact remains that this exhilarating task gives you the freedom to challenge many prosaic rules of interior design.
Homeowners willing to play safe will swear by the whites, off-whites, ivory, cream and beiges in a gloss or semi-gloss finish. After all, let's face it, painting cabinets is not exactly a piece of cake, and staid conventional wisdom dictates that one should stay away from something very bold and striking. Just installing new handles and knobs would be perfectly in order, right?
Wrong! That's the vociferous reply from those that dare to sail into unchartered territory, rather bravely, I must add. There's nothing like a resplendent terracotta shade, pink, light barn red or an impeccable wood toned color to enhance the mood of the place. Dazzling and delightful shades of orange or blackish brown will ensure that your cabinets do not retain that forlorn character.
But, and the end of the day, my vote goes to something dramatic like brushed nickel. I guess the jury is not out on this one yet.
